Best Tablet PC 2011 – My Choice

OK if I am going to take one liberty and stick my neck out and take some stick today will be that day, I am about to announce my choice for best tablet PC 2011. To many who have previously visited this blog my choice will come as no surprise, many of you will agree and many will not. All I ask is before you do criticise me for my choice for best tablet PC 2011, I would like to explain my methodology for a minute or two. Via my everyday job I am fortunate to come into contact with many different Tablet PC’s and representatives of these companies. I am very used to the art of sales pitches and promises, the question I normally ask said representative just when they are reaching the climax of their pitch is ‘That’s great but does it work’. So you can rest assured that my choice for best tablet PC 2011 will work, my question often cuts the best products from the worst. I don’t care how good a sales man you are if your stuck with a bad product you will struggle to demonstrate a products strengths. Read more…

Your Questions About Ipad 2 Review

William asks…

Motorola Xoom or iPad 2? Reviews?

I already have a PC and the current generation iPod by the way. (:
[I have to chose one for a Christmas present.]

Richard answers:

If you get the iPad get the first one or wait for the third. The second isn’t much different then the first, it was more or less put out to draw away attention from the Android Tablets. The iPad will have more applications. There are a lot of companies like Netflix who are waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich before they put their applications on the xoom. Netflix is waiting for this OS before putting out their streaming application, though I would imagine you will still see more apps on the Apple product for a while. Android Tablets for the time being cannot easily play any videos so if that’s a deciding factor go with the iPad. If you want speed and customization though, you want the android. Apple tends to be behind the curb in this area often. You may want to wait try to wait till the end of Nov. To see if the Xoom 2 is announced. I much prefer android, when the Droid came out I trashed my iPhone and picked up the Droid. It isn’t perfect, but I haven’t regretted my choice to jump ship. What it really comes down to is do you prefer PC or Mac? A lot of its about personal preference. You should go to Best Buy(and the Apple store if no iPads are on display) and try both tablets out before making a decision. The problem with asking this question in the forms is you wont get an unbiased answer.

John asks…

Blackberry Playbook vs iPad 2?

Hi, I’m in a bit of a conundrum. I’m looking for a tablet to use for college. On the one hand, my brother has an iPad 2 and it really is a great product; just as Apple says with its Mac’s, everything just works. But it doesnt have Flash and it can be a little slow to load pages. But the screen size and ratio is amazing <3. But it may be TOO big for me, I want something a little bit more portable than a laptop.

On the other hand, however, I have a soft spot for the Playbook. I feel like this would be great for me too because; it's MUCH more portable, it's just as solid and reliable as the iPad (says every review I’ve read), and is just all-around a great product. But I feel like this screen is TOO compact and isnt a true tablet. Both products are priced the same, I would probably be picking up a 32GB WiFi version either way. I don’t see myself downloading too many games, as I plan on using this for:

-Web browsing
-Documents/Spreadsheets/Powerpoints
-Maybe a little art when I’m bored
-Video calls
-Movie editing
-General productivity
-Finances
-Music and photos
-output to TVs and such

So…what do you think? BB Playbook or iPad 2?

P.S. I plan on buying an iPad 2 for a friend of mine as a graduation present, so maybe that should sway my choice a little or something?

P.S.S. I have read a rumor saying that Blackberry may be working on a 10″ Playbook to come out before the holidays. Should i wait for that?

Thank you for all your help :)

Richard answers:

Hi.I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Blackberry Playbook. It is an awesome device and outbeats the ipad.

Steven asks…

Ipad 2? good reviews?

Richard answers:

Kay so I’m interested in Tablet PCs (NOT TABLETS) like Dell XT2 / 3 but it’s sooo damn expensive. Can somebody recommend me the tablet pc with price less than 1200$ and great performance (Maybe a little gaming)

Richard answers:

Your Questions About What Does The Ipad Do Exactly

Nancy asks…

Why is Apple constantly referring to the iPad as “magical”?

Does anyone know exactly what the marketing thought behind calling the iPad “magical and revolutionary” was? I’d be interested to know if that was an internal Apple decision or if they outsourced the marketing and flew it under the Apple banner. I’m just curious why the word “magical” keeps popping up on Apple’s website in relation to the iPad.

Richard answers:

Because they are going to need a lot of magic to sell such a limited device, for $100 plus more than a netbook for those who want a lightweight portable device… The specs that i have seen about it so far seem very lacking…

James asks…

Counterfeit iPad good or not?

Counterfeit iPad can they be anything good? Exactly what does the laws state regarding counterfeit iPad and could I happen to be breaking the law if I purchased a counterfeit iPad. It’s ok, I don’t want to buy a counterfeit iPad. But it must be pricey to be able to build counterfeit iPads how can these people earn any cash? Do individuals who purchase a counterfeit iPad in fact discover it is really counterfeited or do people get tricked?

Richard answers:

Counterfeit iPads are not good no. Some people buy a counterfeit iPad knowingly and get a product that is in no way as good as a real iPad. Counterfeit goods are illegal and the person selling them is breaking the law. This blog post explains more about counterfeit iPads and how to avoid them. I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing wrong, but I absolutely cannot get it to sync! Can someone please explain how to do this?! I thought I had figured it out last time, but he’s added a few entries thru his phone that is not showing up on his ipad. HeLp PlEaSe!

Richard answers:

Without knowing more information, it might be difficult to answer. What model iPhone and iPad? What version of the operating system? IOS 5 is the latest. Does he have iCloud set up? Http://www.macinaminute.com/what-is-icloud-and-do-i-need-it iCloud makes it automatic, but it has to be set up on all devices for it to work properly.

I can help with more information. Try that link to learn more about iCloud, as I think this will be the easiest solution for you.

I have it connected from the ipad to the TV using an HDMI cord and have updated to the latest ipad software.

Im getting sound but no video…Although I can watch youtube videos (sound and video)..Do you need an ipad 2 to mirror exactly what I see on the ipad screen to the TV?

What EXACTLY can I do with an ipad on an airplane?

Been thinking about buying an ipad and now might be the time. Have to go on a work trip with a co-worker and I’m thinking the ipad might keep me occupied enough so I don’t have to talk on the long flight. What, exactly, can I do with it on the airplane that’s easy for a non-techie? TV, movies, etc. Please explain. Thank you!

Richard answers:

Install Netflix and subscribe for free trial if you are not a member already. Membership of Netflix is berry cheap so you should get it anyway.

You can watch as many movie as you want on iPad. You should also install free app abc Player so you will be able to watch all the TV shows from abc channel.

You tube ,Dailymotion ,Vimeo are good too and surf the web and watch TV Shows for free from CBS.
If you like knowledge based entertainment then browse History channel,National Geographic Channel.
These websites have formatted their website for iPad , so they renders beautifully and you can watch interesting videos on their sites.

If you are into kid like entertainment then go to Disney channel they have many amazing videos, games, music for iPad.

If you are a gamer, then install Modernwarfare Sandstorm,Brothers in Arms,N.O.V.A and RESIDENT EVIL. These are console like 3D action games .

If you are not a gamer then instal MultiPong,Air Hockey kind of games.

Install app “Radio” this is one of few radio apps that work at the background which means you can listen the songs while surfing the web or reading a book.

Go to iBooks store and download some interesting books, there are many free books available there.

Your Questions About Dell Touchscreen Computer

Thomas asks…

Dell Studio 1737 laptop touchscreen buttons dont work?

My Dell Studio 1737 laptop has touchscreen buttons for the sound etc, and last night they worked fine, i turned on my computer the smorning and they don’t work at all. can someone help me?!

Richard answers:

You didnt turn off your computer and it went to sleep on its own after a few hours, hour or minutes
Simply Put your computer to sleep by clicking start head to the shutdown menue and chose Sleep from the options, wake it back up then do a full Restart and everything should be back to normal.

If you Tinkered with it last night and forgot what options you changed, then you best click start and type in “Restore” without the quotes to take you back to a restore point where everything worked.

If all else fails then its a good idea to go to Dell website and head to the Communities forum and ask for professional assistance.

Mandy asks…

Can I get just a touchscreen monitor ?

I have a Dell computer with a regular monitor. Is it possible to buy a touchscreen monitor to replace my old one? Would it be compatible? I’ve noticed the HP Touchsmart desktop is really cool, but I wouldn’t want to have to get the computer part too. Is it possible to just purchase the monitor of the touchsmart?

Thanks,
Abby.

Richard answers:

Yes, you can buy touchscreen monitors for use with your Dell.

Be warned they are not cheap though. Even a smallish 17″ LCD touchscreen is going to cost you north of $400 smackers.

Newegg has a huge selection of touchscreen monitors: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=514&name=Touchscreen-Monitors

Linda asks…

Which one to get a les Paul ?

I don’t know which one to get a gibson les paul or a dell touchscreen computer. Please help me!!!!!!!!!

Richard answers:

Are you serious?
Ask yourself…would you rather play Guitar or play on a Computer. THAT is the question.

Your Questions About Ipad Keyboard

Betty asks…

Why does my iPad keyboard keep disconnecting?

It’s an official Apple keyboard purchased from Apple Store. When I plug my iPhone (and no, it’s not because it’s an iPhone that it’s not working. Same pin connector, same software) into it, around 30 seconds later it just pops up saying “This device is not optimised” or something. If I unplug it and plug it back in, though, it does exactly the same 30 seconds later..

Suggestions?

Richard answers:

Check your connector or have it repaired. If it a bluetooth keyboard, check here : http://ipad24h.com/troubleshooting/bluetooth-keyboard-pairing-dropped-connection-and-other-problems.html

Mandy asks…

Is the bluetooth keyboard for iPad 2 worth it?

I was thinking of getting the bluetooth keyboard for iPad 2. This way I can take my much lighter iPad 2 to school to take notes on instead of my heavy laptop. But would this work? Is the iPad good enough for this? What kinds of apps would allow me to do this?

Richard answers:

Which bluetooth keyboard is it. Some are flimsy and are not very comfortable to type on. I bought one and it works fine but I prefer to type on the iPad itself to be honest. Get the official Apple Wireless one, if it’s within your price range.

Lisa asks…

Does a wireless keyboard for ipad 2 connect to the first ipad?

I was going to buy a wireless apple keyboard that said it was for ipad 2, but does anyone know if that one will connect to the first ipad too?

Richard answers:

The iPads (and other iOS devices) use standard Bluetooth connections so most Bluetooth keyboards will connect with an iPad.

Your Questions About Android Tablet Vs Ipad

Donald asks…

Android vs ios tablets?

i want to choose between buying an ipad2 or any other android powered evice and i want to know which one is better… i already have an iphone 4
i also want to know if suppose i have a tablet running an older version of android…can i update it to honeycomb or any new version of android that is released? can we update like we update on the ipad?
and one more last thing…out of the following android tabs which one is the best
1)samsung galaxy tab the new one
2)acer iconia a500
3)lg optimus pad
4) motorolla xoom

Richard answers:

Generally the tablets shipping with versions of Android earlier (2.x) than Honeycomb (3.x) are not capable of running Honeycomb.

The best tablet computer depends on your needs…

At the low end, $250 can get you a Nook Color, which has an ereader orientation but is really a budget, 7-inch, camera-less, tablet running Android 2.2.

If Windows OS compatibility and a digitizer pen are important to you, consider the ASUS Eee Slate or HP Slate 500. The biggest differences between those are that the ASUS has a better display (12.1 inch AFFS 1280×800) than the HP (8.9 inch TFT 1024×600) but is larger, heavier and more expensive. Both the Eee Slate and the HP Slate 500 are expensive, however: Eee Slate is ~$1,200; HP Slate 500, ~$770. A more economical Windows 7 tablet is the Acer Tab W500, which runs about $500 and includes a keyboard and dock.

If high-end video recording is important to you, consider the LG G-Slate (aka Optimus) or BlackBerry Playbook, both of which can record at 1080p.

For overall value, the ASUS Eee Transformer (TF101) has surprisingly good specs for under $400: Android 3.1, 10.1 inch 1280×800 IPS (like iPad, but bigger and higher resolution) display, up to 9 hours of battery life (16 hourass if optional dock added), optional ability to dock with keyboard, 1 GHz Tegra 250 ARM CPU with 1 GB RAM, good array of ports (mini HDMI, SD, micro SD), preloaded Polaris Office 3.0 for editing documents (.doc), spreadsheets (.xls) and presentation (.ppt) files. Note, though, no 3G (however people report success in tethering it to smart phones).

The iPad (0.34 inches) and Galaxy Tab 10.1 (0.336 inches) are the thinnest. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 (1.25 lbs) is the lightest of the big-screen (greater than 9 inch) tablets.

IPad 2 Advantages:

IPads have a higher degree of fit-and-finish than the competition. Like iPhones vs other smart phones, iPods vs other MP3 players, or Macs vs PC’s, iPads are widely regarded as being more refined and polished than the competition. IPad also has a large and refined App Store (although Android Market is closing the gap).

IPad 2 Disadvantages:

1. No Flash.
2. No SD expansion; no HDMI port; no USB port.
3. ASUS Eee Transformer has a better display (10.1 inch, 1280×800, IPS vs 9.7 inch, 1024×768, IPS) for less money.
4. PlayBook and G-Slate have better rear camera video recording (1080p vs 720p).
5. PlayBook has much better front camera video recording (1080p vs VGA).
6. Almost all tablets have better camera resolution than iPad’s lousy 0.7 MP.

Motorola Xoom is heavier and thicker than the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Xoom’s advantage is that it has HDMI out and micro USB ports. It also has a 5MP rear camera compared to Tab’s 3MP. The Xoom has a front webcam and a 720p rear video camera; the Tab has only the 720p rear video camera.

Finally, if cellular service is important, you may want to consider which tablet your favorite carrier supports:

None:Eee Slate, Slate 500, TouchPad, Thrive, Eee Pad TF101, Iconia Tab A500, Archos 101, Archos 70, and NOOK Color
AT&T:iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab
Sprint:PlayBook and Galaxy Tab
T-Mobile:G-Slate, Streak 7, and Galaxy Tab
Verizon:Galaxy Tab 10.1, iPad 2, Xoom, and Galaxy Tab

Joseph asks…

Which Tablet Should I Get?

I need help with choosing a tablet I can get. The three I’m stuck with is between the IPad 2, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I need help picking one of those three tablets. Which one would you recommend and why in regards to the OS and specifications of the three devices. Also two more questions, the first question is if I were to hack the tablets which one would be better and more worth it to hack? The second question is what is the point to hacking the tablets and what are my advantages/benefits to hack an android tablet vs a apple tablet? I prefer more details and explanations so the more details to the answers I get in regards to my questions the better off it’ll be for me.

Richard answers:

Well it matter what yyour gonna do on it.
If your a huge browser and you like playing online games and stuff like that get the Samsung Galaxy tab because it has flash.
If you want performance: get the Asus EEE tablet because it has more RAM and Memorie and its also a more proffesional devise.
If your a gamer: well get the iPad.
Also about the hacking i would get the iPad or iPad 2 because you can jailbreak it.
And the question why u would hack is beacuse you can customise it add personal stuff and things like that.

Steven asks…

IPad 2 vs Netbook: Which should I get?

Well, my netbook died, and my life was on their. At first, I was so dead set on getting a new netbook. But then I got to thinking. I don’t really need a new netbook. I have my Mac mini and I use the family Dell to sync my iPhone. So, maybe I should just get an iPad 2! I’ll describe what I do, and you tell me which one you think I should get.
I’m a 13 year old seventh grader. I get all A’s. I use my netbook mainly for word processing and Facebook. I love Apple. They can be stupid at times, but I remember my mom getting the first iPhone. I fell in love with it. Now I have the 3GS. Please don’t tell me not to get the iPad 2 and to get an Android tablet, because I’ve used them. My grandfather has one, as well as a few of my close friends. The battery life is, as I understand, about the same across the two devices (my netbook only lasted 2 hours. It was a pain. I don’t like Dell). The iPad just seems more portable. I like the Motorola Xoom, too, but the screen is too small.
I know I have a habit of going on and on. Sorry. What do you think?

Richard answers:

Well, just so you know, the iPad 3 is coming out later this year.

Your Questions About Tablet Computers Reviews

Betty asks…

Trouble with Computer tablet?

Okay, so, I got a computer tablet because I wanted to try them out vs. mouse. So, for starters, I bought a genius because it was one of the cheaper and had better reviews than the other cheaper tablets. When I draw, in a drawing program, even if I don’t touch my stylus pen to the screen, and im just holding it like an inch away, it still draws. Is there anyway to fix this? Please help… Its really annoying having to go back and erase all the extra lines it makes and it’s really hard to try and draw.

Richard answers:

You need to update the driver. Go to the website for the company who made the tablet – they usually have downloadable driver updates. If they don’t or you can’t find them, then email them and ask for it. You’ll need to tell them the model of your tablet and which version of windows you are using. Then when you get the file and install it, everything should work. :)

I’ve had this same problem in the past. If it doesn’t help you I would suggest emailing the company again to ask what else could possibly be wrong. Always go straight to the company, they’re usually very helpful.

Joseph asks…

Should I purchase HP tx2000z tablet?

Hi, I am in delema about computers, I would like to know if the HP tablet is a good computer, have been seeing some mixed reviews about AMD processor, however since its under 1 grand would like to purchase it. Also owners of the HP tx2000 please respond, would like to know how durable and battery life as well as how hot the computer gets with prolonged use.

As an asian who is a noob at computers help is much appreciated.

Richard answers:

I had one and didnt like it. Get the modbook from Other World Computing. It is a modified macbook from apple made into a tablet

Richard asks…

If I buy a tablet will I need any other software in order to use it?

I was thinking of getting my parents to buy me the Wacom Intuos4 Medium. It looks really nice and has some great reviews, is there a better tablet in or under that price range? I don’t know much about tablets so I was wondering what else do I need besides a computer in order to start drawing? Should I buy any software?
What? why do I need to know how much the iPad costs D:

Richard answers:

No, I don’t think so. I do not know much about this subject, though. There must be some websites that offer free software if it is necessary. :D

Mary asks…

Ipad vs. Laptop. Which is better for me?

I need help figuring out what pc/tablet is good for me i want an Ipad 2 for graphc design and i was wondering if their is anything for manga sketching and 3d animation but i also want the ipad 2 for fun and reading manga watch anime watching videos and listening to music, watching movies and playing games, and watching movies(etc.) i’d get the one with 64gb but if i got a laptop would it be better i’d have to get a pen tablet and graphic design software and virus protection and alot of other softwares which would be a better decision??? for all the things i wanna do..
Im thinking a laptop is alot overall bc
The laptop i might get would be 500-700
If i travel i’d need something to put it on bc laptops arent supposed to be on ur lap
second, i would have to buy a pen tablet because i dont have good mouse control
third, i’d have to buy graphic design software…. shall i go on again……….
Apps… i dont want to be difficult but what about apps?

Richard answers:

Hi, I have both and I’m in the design/animation field.

The iPad is great, but definitely still limited in terms of features and freedom. Somehow it’s just not as convenient to use the iPad for design and illustration purposes. Don’t be fooled by the cool promo videos of illustration apps, it’s really not so easy lol.

But at any rate, if you have the budget for both – then I would definitely tell you to buy both. You can do your serious work on your laptop and do your doodles and sketches on your iPad. It would raise your productivity and creativity for sure.

Somehow, for me, the iPad works great as an initial sketchpad.

Hope this helps :)

Steven asks…

iPad vs Laptop/Notebook?

iPad is not really a computer but a tablet, but both ipads and pc are able to carry around with you, obviously…

To all ipad user, what is your opinion based on your experience of using ipad comparing to laptop.

I’m not talking about specified PC models/brand to compare with ipad. I’m talking about comparison to PC in ‘GENERAL’.

Is it a good idea for college/university students to use ipad?

Will ipad one day dominate PC and all other tablet brands?

Richard answers:

For the price you should really get a computer. I mean there are alot of things a student needs to do that the ipad cannot do. If you have a computer already and just want an Ipad for the hell of it then get it.

It may one day dominate but it will have to match the capabilities of every laptop. Which it does not right now
